William L. Mayo Prestigious Speaker Series to feature RJ Mitte

The William L. Mayo Prestigious Speaker Series will host Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte on Tuesday April 14 at 7 p.m. in Ferguson Auditorium.

The topic of the event is overcoming adversity: turning a disadvantage into an advantage. Mitte has worked to overcome adversity his whole life. At the age of three, Mitte was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, a condition that causes impairment in control of muscles. Mitte's character on Breaking Bad, Walter White Jr., suffers from a more severe case of the same disorder.

Mitte has become an advocate for raising awareness of equality and diversity. He speaks openly at high schools, colleges and universities about how he has overcome obstacles and achieved his goals. Currently, he is the spokesperson for the National Disability Institute's Real Economic Impact Tour, “I AM PWD” the tri-union campaign, which advocates for actors with disabilities and “Beyond Diversity—the future is now.”

Tickets are free for students and are available in The Club at the Rayburn Student Center or at the door with a student ID. Tickets are $5 for faculty and staff and $10 for the community. Faculty and staff and community members may purchase tickets at the door or online.
