Texas A&M University System Hires Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Dr. Shonda Gibson, the Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Research at Texas A&M University-Commerce, will join The Texas A&M University System on July 2 as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, System officials announced Thursday.

Dr. Gibson will report to Dr. James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

“I'm excited by the potential Dr. Gibson brings to this opportunity,” Dr. Hallmark said. “Her experience in business and academia gives me great confidence in her ability to lead these programs in Academic Affairs.”

Among her responsibilities, Dr. Gibson will lead efforts associated with the EmpowerU initiatives. She also will work closely with deans of colleges, directors of programs and other academic professionals. Much of Dr. Gibson's summer will include traveling to System campuses, meeting local leaders and familiarizing herself with the challenges and successes of each university.

Dr. Gibson added: “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of The Texas A&M University System.”

Prior to her position as Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Research at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Dr. Gibson served in roles at the university including: Interim Vice President for Student Access and Success; Executive Director of the Texas Institute for Competency Based Education; Accreditation Liaison for the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; Executive Director for Institutional Effectiveness and Research; and Executive Director for Global Learning and Quality Enhancement Plan. Previously, Dr. Gibson enjoyed a lengthy career with Sara Lee Corporation in National Training and Operations.

Dr. Gibson holds four degrees from Texas A&M University-Commerce including, a bachelor degree, a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology.
