A&M-Commerce presents the Rising Lion Program, an exciting summer opportunity that prepares incoming freshmen for academic success.
This structured academic program provides resources and support that will help you smoothly transition into college life. As a participant, you can jump-start your education by taking two classes during the Summer II semester scheduled to start July 12 through August 12, 2021. You will also benefit from a personal mentor, small class sizes and an Academic Success Team standing ready to help you smoothly transition into college life. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to remain in your assigned residence hall for the upcoming school year.

Rising Lion Program :: Benefits
The Rising Lion Program helps ease your transition from high school to college by providing:

A Head Start
Begin taking on campus college classes during the Summer II semester (July 12th – August 12th). Complete two classes for a total of six credit hours.

Support
Rely on guidance from advisors, mentors and faculty who care about your success.

Engagement
Move into on-campus housing during the summer, meet new friends, join student organizations and get a jump start on the fall semester.

Summer Financial Aid
Assistance may be available to families who meet specific qualifications. Participants should plan on completing the 2020-2021 FAFSA or TAFSA for eligibility.

Students participating in the Rising Lion Program will pay regular Summer II tuition and fees, housing and meal plan costs.

Rising Lion FAQs
When does the Rising Lion Program begin and end?
The Rising Lion program follows the Summer II semester. Classes will begin on July 12th and the last day of classes and finals is August 12th.
What are the minimum requirements to apply for the Rising Lion Program?
You will be considered for the program after an admission review and decision. All eligible students will receive an invitation to apply for the Rising Lion Program.
What classes will I take during the Rising Lion Program?
The courses offered will be a part of the A&M-Commerce general education core curriculum which are required for a bachelor’s degree. Classes include math, science, English and history. Based on placement scores, some students may also take developmental courses.
When will I move to campus?
All Rising Lion students are required to live on campus for the duration of the program. Move in will begin on July 9th, the Friday before classes start for the Summer II semester.
May I participate in the Rising Lion Program if I have TASFA?
Who decides which two courses I will enroll in?
All Rising Lion participants must complete a New Student Summer Orientation where you will choose your classes with your academic advisor.
What if I have vacation plans, a family reunion etc. during the time of the Rising Lion Program?
Due to the abbreviated length of the program, missing just one class could be detrimental to your success in the program. We suggest you plan your vacations around Summer II semester (July 12 – August 12).
How much does it cost to participate in the Rising Lion Program?
Students participating in the Rising Lion Program will pay regular Summer II semester tuition and fees, housing, and meal plan costs which will total: $3,412 for the semester. Participants should submit the FAFSA or TAFSA to be considered for summer financial aid to help cover costs.
Is the Rising Lion Program In Person?
Yes, the Rising Lion Program will take place in person on the Commerce campus. All Rising Lion participants are required to live on campus for the duration of the program. The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are our top priorities! We will follow the CDC guidelines in regards to social distancing and safety.
