Master of Science in Psychology :: MINORS

Focus Your Passion

The Department of Psychology and Special Education offers three different tracks towards earning your master’s degree. Explore what option works best for your research interest and career goals.

Psychology (MS)

Go deeper into your exploration of the mind by taking a closer look at human cognition and behavior. Our master’s degree in Psychology prepares you for psychological research and further graduate work. We offer thesis and non-thesis options. If you’re interested in a Ph.D. program, we recommend the thesis track. (Total Hours: 36)

Applied Psychology (MS)

Become a licensed Psychological Associate through our Applied Psychology track. Our program prepares you for a wide variety of careers in clinical, organizational and educational psychology. Experience hands-on training with our Community Psychology Clinic that serves individuals, schools, police departments and community businesses. We offer thesis and non-thesis options. (Total Hours: 66)

Educational Diagnostician for School Psychology (MS)

If you are an Educational Diagnostician who wants to become a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology you can complete our Re-specialization track. Our program prepares you for a career as an LSSP. Please see the Specialist in School Psychology page. We offer thesis and non-thesis options. (Total Hours: 39-42)

Graduate Program Costs

Program Costs

As of Fall 2019, tuition and fees for a graduate student taking 9 credit hours through our 1 Year Optional Rate Plan is $3,288.98 for a Texas resident and $7,086.98 for a non-Texas resident. However, rates do change based on the number of credit hours taken, payment plan used and other factors.

Master of Science in Psychology :: Program Admission Requirements

Domestic Student Requirements

If you are applying to the Educational Diagnostician Re-Specialization for School Psychology, please refer to the Specialist in School Psychology page for admission requirements.

  • Apply Texas Application
  • Application fee: $50
  • All official transcripts
    • Bachelor’s degree transcript(s)
    • Any master’s degree transcript(s) with graduate coursework (if applicable)
  • You must have the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution with at least a 3.00 GPA
    • Official general GRE scores (no minimum score requirements)
    • *If undergraduate GPA is 3.25 or above, we will waive the GRE requirement

*Note: For the Applied Psychology Track, students earning a 3.5 GPA or above are not required to submit GRE scores. Students with less than a 3.5 GPA will be required to submit GRE scores. There is no cut-off or minimum score.

    • A copy of the provisional certificate or diploma
  • You must have the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution with at least a 3.00 GPA
    • Official general GRE scores (no minimum score requirements)
    • *If undergraduate GPA is 3.25 or above, we will waive the GRE requirement

    • Completion (all years) of a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from a regionally accredited university in the United States.
