The Department of Higher Education offers two different tracks towards earning your master’s degree. Discover what option works best for your lifestyle.

Administration Emphasis (Non-Thesis)

Get ready to create meaningful direction in your career. Our Administration Emphasis introduces you to the field and profession of higher education. Explore the history of higher education and how it benefits communities and societies. Learn how colleges and universities work and lead their students to success. Our program will prepare you for rewarding entry and mid-level administrative careers (financial aid, registrar, housing, academic counseling, budgeting, student affairs, alumni relations and admissions). The program is completely online. Total Credit Hours: 30

College Teaching Emphasis (Non-Thesis)

Our College Teaching Emphasis focuses on teaching strategies and ways to enhance learning and development among college students. You will understand the philosophy and applications of teaching and learning in the college classroom environment. Total Credit Hours: 36

Graduate Program Costs

Program Costs

As of Fall 2019, tuition and fees for a graduate student taking 9 credit hours through our 1 Year Optional Rate Plan is $3,288.98 for a Texas resident and $7,086.98 for a non-Texas resident. However, rates do change based on the number of credit hours taken, payment plan used and other factors.

Admission Requirements

Required Documents for Domestic Students

  • Apply Texas Application
  • Application fee: $50
  • All official transcripts
    • Bachelor’s degree, including all transcripts used towards a bachelor’s degree
    • Any master’s degree transcript(s) with graduate coursework (if applicable)
  • Undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • One of the following:
    • Official GRE scores
    • 3.00 GPA on the last 60 undergraduate hours
    • 3.00 overall undergraduate GPA

Application Deadline

Applications are accepted throughout the year.
Note: International students are not eligible for this degree.
