Develop in-depth understanding of multicultural learning environments and learn to meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students with our interdisciplinary studies bachelor’s degree program. If you seek to become a bilingual teacher, who provides instruction in both Spanish and English, this program requires Spanish literacy. If you seek to become an ESL teacher, who provides instruction in English, you do not need foreign language literacy.

We offer four unique interdisciplinary studies bachelor’s degree tracks to become a teacher of bilingual/ESL students:
Bilingual Generalist (EC-6)
Bring your language expertise to the classroom and immerse your students in a variety of bilingual and content learning experiences. Our 120-credit hour program will prepare you for instruction in English and Spanish. Completing this program and passing all TExES exams certifies you to be a bilingual generalist in the state of Texas.
Math with ESL (4-8)
Teaching math is complex. Making it engaging while incorporating English as a Second Language are what make teaching with linguistic equity in mind. Our 120-credit hour program will develop your skills in math and ESL. Completing this program and passing all TExES exams certifies you to teach math and ESL in the state of Texas.
Science with ESL (4-8)
Explore the world of science as you teach English as a Second Language. Our 120-credit hour program will sharpen your skills in science and ESL. Completing this program and passing all TExES exams certifies you to teach science and ESL in the state of Texas.
English/Language Arts/Reading with ESL (4-8)
Literature is where you dive into multicultural experiences. As a teacher you are tasked with incorporating English as a Second Language into your instructional time in order to bring language and literature alive for your students. Our 120-credit hour program will strengthen your skills in English, language arts, reading and ESL. Completing this program and passing all TExES exams certifies you to teach English, language arts, reading and ESL in the state of Texas.

Course Delivery
Our flexible program offers face-to-face instruction at our main campus in Commerce and our extended university sites located at the Mesquite Metroplex Center, Navarro College and Collin Higher Education Center (CHEC) in McKinney. Some courses are offered online.
