In the Agriculture Academy, you can complete certain degree programs in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources by taking courses first at Dallas College and then transferring to A&M-Commerce. Agribusiness (BS)

This program of study is designed to prepare students for careers in various businesses or government agencies associated with the production, processing and distribution of agricultural products. This major integrates competencies in the principles of business management including financial management, marketing, planning, analysis and organization with the technical knowledge of agricultural sciences. This major prepares graduates for careers in agribusiness, agricultural finance, county extension offices, ranch management, banks, ag loan offices, federal agencies and ag consultancy businesses.

Agricultural Sciences (BS)

A graduate with a major in agricultural sciences should possess competencies in basic economics and management, plant and animal operations, pest control, production and utilization of plant and animal products, marketing and food sciences. Examples of career options for graduates with an agricultural sciences major include agricultural civil service professions, technical and sales positions, landscape operations, county extension agents, ranch management, agronomic or horticultural production management, food manufacturing and preservation and quality control.

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (BS)

Our Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems bachelor’s degree will give students the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to create a sustainable future in agriculture. You will gain the classroom instruction and hands-on learning needed to pursue a variety of in-demand agricultural careers.

Hydroponics and urban agriculture courses are also offered at our Dallas location toward a degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.

Eligibility and Admission

Students completing their first two years of coursework at Dallas College and those with AAS credentials in agricultural fields are encouraged to apply for the A&M-Commerce Agriculture Academy.

If accepted into the Agriculture Academy, you will complete courses in Dallas, supported in your studies through a cohort learning community. After your junior year, you will complete your last year of courses online or on the Commerce campus.

To enter the academy, you must first apply and be accepted to Dallas College. After acceptance, you must prequalify for the A&M-Commerce Agriculture Academy.

If you meet the minimum requirements for the academy (as determined by Dallas College), you will receive an email notification containing the A&M-Commerce Agriculture Academy application link.

Transfer pathway/curriculum

Each program in the A&M-Commerce Agriculture Academy features a unique curriculum consisting of classes at both Dallas College and A&M-Commerce. Although there may be several options to fulfill certain requirements for the associate degree, please note that these pathways list the specific courses leading to each bachelor's degree. All plans can be modified to fit the needs of part-time students. These are not official degree plans. Refer to the catalog for official degree requirements. You must receive a GPA of at least 2.00 on all college-level course work. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Contact your advisor for information.

PROGRAM COSTS

Tuition and fees for graduate students taking nine credit hours are $3,669 for Texas residents and $7,341 for non-residents.
