Proclamation from the A&M-Commerce Faculty Senate

WHEREAS the senseless killing of unarmed Black people is unjust and wrong

WHEREAS these killings are symbols of a much larger, pervasive problem that is not always visually recorded for the world to see

WHEREAS the events of May 25, 2020 and the days after have brought racism to the forefront, revealing again systemic flaws in our justice system

WHEREAS these events demand, that as a global community, we acknowledge the problems and speak out against them

WHEREAS the Faculty of Texas A&M University-Commerce stands united with the administration of Texas A&M University-Commerce to build a pillar supporting an inclusive community characterized by respect and collaboration

WHEREAS the Faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce recognize that we have a voice and a platform to educate others of systemic/institutional racism and we have a responsibility to learn from the past and help to create a better future

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Faculty Senate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, on this 3rd day of June 2020, stand with the Black people of Texas A&M-Commerce and this community, to eradicate all forms of inequity, inequality and racial injustice. The Faculty Senate is committed to protecting students from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, age, disability, or veteran’s status. The Faculty Senate will remain vigilant, assume leadership, organize and take action to ensure Texas A&M University–Commerce’s goal towards the promotion of racially and socially just practices. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusivity. We proclaim that each individual is entitled to equal opportunity and equal treatment under the law – treatment that is fair, respectful and humane.
