Haley loves to relax and refuel by spending time outside or reading a good book. She finds inspiration and primes her creative juices when surrounded by nature or wrapped up in a literary work. This love of nature brought Haley to Commerce to complete a degree in Agribusiness and Equine Science. As a student, she became a student worker in Annual Giving, doing phonathon and special projects. Throughout this time as a student worker, Haley found a passion for the mission of Philanthropy and Engagement and a desire to have a career in Higher Education Philanthropy. As a senior, Haley had the opportunity to join the team full-time as the Philanthropy Coordinator. Since starting full-time, she has loved getting to connect donors with their impact on students’ lives through scholarships and program support. The Lion community is near and dear to Haley’s heart, and it inspires her work daily. A&M-Commerce inspires a love of learning in students and has motivated her to complete a Master’s in Nonprofit Management at Louisiana State University-Shreveport.
A Conversation with Haley Marshall
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?
“The Lion community is a family. I came to Commerce and knew that this was home. Student life at A&M-Commerce is unlike any other educational experience. Opportunities abound for students, and the faculty and staff will invest in you and your education. A&M Commerce is a unique place and a hidden secret, not far from Dallas. I’m very thankful for all of the support I received as a student and now as a staff member. You can’t go wrong with Lion life.”
What has been your most memorable moment helping an alum or donor?
“My most memorable moment was receiving a handwritten note from a donor for her scholarship recipient. It was amazing to get to connect a donor with the student they are impacting.”
How has your role changed since you began working at A&M-Commerce?
“I began working with the Philanthropy and Engagement team as a student caller in Mane Messengers. I have worked my way up from a student worker position to a full-time staff member. Throughout my career, I have experienced a broad range of philanthropic opportunities at A&M Commerce. In my current position, I am part of the Philanthropy Operations team, stewarding our donors.”
What do you like most about your career?
“I like the meaning of my career. Every day, I get to come to the office and read about or be a part of our students’ educational journeys. Our donors make a huge impact on the student body. I saw this when I was a student. It is exciting and inspiring to be a part of it.”
