28th Annual Veterans Vigil to be Held Nov. 7

A&M-Commerce will host the 28th Annual Veterans Vigil: Lions' Salute to Veterans on November 7 beginning at 10 a.m.

According to Veterans Vigil Chair Dustin Pearson, the event is an opportunity for A&M-Commerce to come together to remember and honor the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

Alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community are encouraged to attend.

The event will start with a reception at 10 a.m. in the second-floor lobby of Rayburn Student Center. The reception will include fun giveaways and a light breakfast.

A ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the second-floor conference rooms at Rayburn Student Center. John Parsons, student veteran and recipient of this year's ASTP Unit 4813 Memorial Scholarship, will introduce the guest speaker, Ret. Colonel William “Bill” Dwiggins.

Colonel Dwiggins served for 32 years as a United States Marine. He now serves as the Veterans Education District Coordinator for Texas Veterans Commission Education, and he has been awarded Congressman Sam Johnson’s Congressional Veteran Commendation.

Following the ceremony, a vigil flame will be lit and continuously burn until it is extinguished later in the afternoon.

The closing ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. on the walking mall in front of Rayburn Student Center. A presentation of the colors will be presented by Princeton ISD's Navy JROTC. The vigil will conclude when the vigil flame is extinguished.

A&M-Commerce and the Veterans Vigil Committee extends a special thanks for the generous sponsorship from the Air Force Association Chapter 416.
