Letter from Dr. Rudin Regarding Hunt County Disaster Declaration

Dear Lion Family,

This morning, the Hunt County Commissioners Court issued a disaster declaration that goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The declaration includes a stay-at-home order for citizens of Hunt County, which includes Texas A&M University-Commerce.

The declaration indicates that anyone who is not working under an essential service must stay at home. Essential services include health care operations, grocery stores, pharmacies and businesses providing critical infrastructure.

Please note that the A&M-Commerce main campus will remain open to offer essential services to students who are staying on campus. Dining services, student health services, the library, the University Police Department and other essential services will remain open and available. Rest assured that students will not be asked to leave campus.

Faculty and staff members who have been deemed “essential” by their supervisors may continue to report on site for work as long as they are not showing any signs or symptoms of the virus. It is also recommended that employees work remotely as much as possible. Supervisors may adjust current staff levels as additional recommendations are provided by senior leadership.

A&M-Commerce is committed to following the stay-at-home order to help flatten the curve and slow the spread of this virus.

Stay healthy,

The president signature.
