Hannah Kirby Moves on From The Voice

Just last week, Texas A&M University-Commerce student Hannah Kirby performed her last song as a contestant on NBC's The Voice. However, this isn't the end of the road for Kirby. With a newfound drive for her musical passion, she says she is even more determined than ever to pursue her dreams.

“For me, I didn't really expect to get as far as I did because I'm not a main stream artist, and I don't sing top 40 pop songs,” said Kirby. “As a musician, you never really know how you're going to be received. You're not really sure if what you do is something that other people really identify with and that they enjoy. So, to come on the show and have that positive reaction; the one where people want to see how my career goes and want to buy my music … I couldn't have asked for anything more.”

Before her time on The Voice, Kirby was working on recording an album of her own original music. After receiving such a positive reaction on the national level, she is even more determined to finish producing that album. Kirby explained that she went on the show to build her fan base and to find people who liked the same kind of music that she does. Now, after making it all the way through to the Top 8, it's clear that she's done just that. Kirby went from having around 50 Twitter followers to now having more than 34,000 who stretch across the U.S and even as far as the Philippines.

Kirby says her new album will come from a basis of rock music. She will be playing her violin and pulling influences from electronic and foreign musicians. She also said she believes that her success on the show is thanks to all of her fans, followers, hometown of Sulphur Springs and A&M-Commerce family.

“I really want to thank everyone at A&M-Commerce because I know that part of the reason I got so far was the support from you all,” said Kirby. “I feel like you guys really helped push me forward, and I'm so thankful for the support.”

A&M-Commerce is proud of Kirby's accomplishments, and we eagerly await her upcoming album as we look forward to her undoubtedly bright future.
