Dr. Srinivas Nippani Awarded Regents Professor Award at Spring Convocation

Texas A&M University-Commerce held its Spring 2016 Convocation in honor of Dr. Srinivas Nippani being awarded with the Regents Professor Award.

The Convocation took place in the University Auditorium on March 29. In order for students, faculty, and staff to attend the Convocation, all classes and campus offices were canceled during the time of the event. The Convocation opened with a performance by the A&M-Commerce Chorale, directed by Dr. Randall Hooper, followed by speeches and introductions by A&M-Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Adolfo Benavides, and Faculty Senate President Dr. Sean Anderson. After receiving the award, Dr. Nippani made the crowd roar with his hilarious and impactful speech. The ceremony closed with the singing of the Alma Mater.

“I am very humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Dr. Nippani.

Dr. Nippani, a professor in the department of economics and finance, came to A&M-Commerce in 2002 as an assistant professor of finance. He was promoted to associate rank with tenure in 2005, and became a full professor in 2009. In 2010 he was awarded with A&M-Commerce's 2010 Provost Award for Full Professor for Research and Creative Activity for the College of Business, and in 2012 he won the H.M. Lafferty Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholarship and Creative Activity.

Nippani chairs the Faculty Committee in the College of Business, and was also the first director of the Master of Science in Finance program at A&M-Commerce. His research has been published in many high level finance journals, and cited in finance textbooks, the U.S. Congress, the Government Accountability Office, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and many other places.

“Our annual Convocation to honor the latest recipient of the Texas A&M University's Regents Professor Service Award is one of the highlights of our academic year,” said Dr. Benavides. “This is the highest recognition and most prestigious award bestowed upon a faculty member by the A&M System. It was very gratifying to see our Regents and Mayo Professors, our faculty colleagues, and other members of the university community join us to celebrate the extra-ordinary professional accomplishments of Dr. Srinivas Nippani. This is yet one more indication of why our Carnegie Classification is now one of Doctoral University R2—Higher Research Intensity.”

A&M-Commerce is proud to have Dr. Nippani as a part of its university. Congratulations to Dr. Nippani!
