Dr. Greg and Alicia Hulsey Recognized for Transformational Gift

Texas A&M University-Commerce and Lion Athletics recognized Dr. Greg and Alicia Hulsey with a ceremony Friday in recognition of their transformational leadership gift to the university and the Lion Sports Medicine program. It marks the largest gift to intercollegiate athletics in the department’s 106-year history.

“It’s a great day to be a Lion and this is another example of what we do as a university here,” said University President Dr. Mark J. Rudin in remarks at the signing presentation. “We take great pride in providing our students with an experience to come to school. We talk a lot about wraparound services like financial aid and academic advising, but student-athletes take on a different type of wraparound service, particularly their health.

“It’s folks like Greg who have played a critical role in ensuring the health and welfare of our student-athletes and helping with their ability to do well on the field, but also being able to take that into the classrooms. We are really just overwhelmed with your graciousness for both of you to play such a big role in what we do at the university here.”

“As I’ve gotten to know Greg and Alicia over the last five and a half years, they’ve shown they epitomize our Best In Class mission and truly have a passion not just for this institution, but for our student-athletes and coaches,” said A&M-Commerce director of athletics Tim McMurray. “On behalf of our Student-Athlete Advisory Council, our department and certainly our institution, we offer our gratitude for this impactful gift.”

“From the bottom of my heart I just want to say thank you. I see the love that you give to our university and it bleeds into all of us,” said Lion Football student-athlete Dominique Ramsey, on behalf of the student-athletes. “I love this university way more because of people like you. Every injury that I’ve had, you’ve helped me come back from. I just really want to thank you for all of the support that you’ve given us.”

ABOUT THE HULSEYS
Dr. Greg Hulsey, DPT, graduated from East Texas State University in 1988 with a BS in Integrated Science, and shortly thereafter Alicia graduated with a BS in marketing in 1989. During their time on campus, both Greg and Alicia were involved in Greek life with Alicia belonging to the Chi Omega Sorority and Greg a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. The Hulseys’ Lion Legacy has continued through generations as Greg’s father and sister along with Greg and Alicia’s two children all attended East Texas State University/A&M–Commerce.

After graduation, Dr. Hulsey pursued his degree in Physical Therapy at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and then continued his career with a local outpatient practice prior to founding his own private practice rehabilitation agency in 2000. Today, Dr. Hulsey is the President and CEO of Hulsey Therapy Services, P.C., which has grown to more than 27 employees and is located right here in Hunt County with offices in Commerce and Greenville. The practice is the largest outpatient facility in Hunt County, and both facilities are fully equipped with the latest and most up-to-date medical rehab equipment.

The Hulsey family serves our community in many ways; Greg has served on the Alumni Board, Champions Circle Athletics’ Directors Advisory Board, Lions Club member, First Baptist Church Commerce member, Chamber of Commerce board member, and on several committee and boards for the city and University. Greg has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumni (2021), Lion Athletics Hall of Honor (2018), Gold Blazer Recipient (2013), and as the Most Influential citizen of Commerce through the Ivory Moore Foundation (2009).

Dr. Hulsey is well known for his support of Lion student-athletes through his sports medicine expertise, and donation of resources consisting of both time and financial. He has served as the Team Physical Therapist since 1992, and is famous for his Lion branded sports medicine RV, which he drives to all away football games assisting the sports medicine staff in transportation and facilities. Though personal notoriety is not the Hulseys’ motive for philanthropic support, it should be noted that through this commitment, the Hulsey family further cements their legacy in the history of A&M–Commerce, and they continue to make an impact on our students’ health, pursuit of excellence, and future success.
