University Students Attend Disney College Program

Elementary education major, Brianeka “Bre” Smith, recently participated in the Disney College Program. The Disney College Program gives students the opportunity to work and live at Disney World while earning a salary and college credit by taking classes in Florida or online at their home university.

Smith entered the program after Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Becky Barton Sinclair described the program in her ELED 200 class discussion about education issues including what careers or companies, other than traditional classroom teaching jobs, value and hire education majors. The program changed Smith's life. She gained confidence and became a more driven student when she returned.

“The experiences she shared proved she learned more about diverse cultures, communication and public relations than she could have ever learned from a textbook,” said Dr. Sinclair. “She returned home a changed young woman with goals and the drive to achieve them.”

Smith will graduate in May and begin a yearlong Disney Program position in August. She hopes to earn a full-time internship position at Disney in the future. Honors college student Grace Campbell will also participate in the program for the fall semester.
