A&M-Commerce Professor Publishes New Study on Principal Promotions

Dr. Sarah Guthery, assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at A&M-Commerce, and Lauren Bailes from the University of Delaware used data from the Texas Education Agency to assess the probability of and time to promotion for 4,689 assistant principals in Texas over a 16-year span. The study found that qualified black and female assistant principals are systematically delayed and denied promotion to principal compared to their white or male counterparts. The findings were published in June in AERA Open, an open access journal of the American Educational Research Association. Read the full press release.
