A&M-Commerce Partners With Greenville ISD To Launch New Assured Admission Initiative

A&M-Commerce and Greenville ISD leaders made history March 6!

A crowd of students, educators and administrators gathered at Greenville High School to celebrate the new “First Choice” initiative. The program is designed to turn Greenville Lions into A&M-Commerce Lions by offering current and future GISD high school graduates an excellent pathway to learn more about the first-class academic programs, outstanding faculty, and exciting student life at A&M-Commerce.

Speakers included GISD Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins, A&M-Commerce Provost and Vice President Dr. John Humphreys, and GHS senior Eric Miller, who will be studying graphic art at A&M-Commerce in the fall.

A&M-Commerce and GISD are committed to student engagement, lifelong learning and making a positive impact on our students, our community and the world in which we live.

“I am very excited about what this partnership will do for the students of GISD. I am a firm believer that education opens doors, provides options, and leads to greater success and happiness in life,” GISD Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins said.

The program for rising Greenville ISD high school juniors will consist of a series of specialized events beginning in the fall. Students and their parents/families will attend special tours and orientation sessions at the university, and receive a select number of tickets for select campus events and athletic competitions. These events will provide GISD students with unique insight into university life.

Under the terms of the program, all GISD juniors in the top quartile will receive unconditional admission to the university after graduation; juniors in the second quartile will receive admission if they meet certain SAT and other standardized testing requirements; and students in the third and fourth quartile will receive deferred admission for the spring semester if they attend a regionally accredited Texas junior/community college for the fall semester and meet certain requirements.

“We have an opportunity to make Greenville High School graduates Lions forever. We are extremely proud and excited to kick off the inaugural First Choice Program with Greenville High School,” said Dr. Lee Young, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management at A&M-Commerce.
