LEOCON on April 13

Texas A&M University-Commerce will hold the second annual LEOCON on April 13 beginning at 7 a.m. in the Hall of Languages.

Syphers or Sigma Phi Pi, the university's science-fiction and fantasy student organization, will be hosting LEOCON which is a one day convention for fans of comics, gaming and anime. There will be presentations and workshops on game criticism, the social psychology of fandom, anime, role playing games and much more. This year's theme is “Anime, Manga, Graphic Novels,” and guests will include Dr. Kukhee Choo of Tulane University, Mr. Hall Hood of Bioware, Dr. Matt Barton of St. Cloud State University and Mr. Brian Brinlee.

“Dr. Choo’s research interests are in the transnational media flow, gender and post-colonialism and cultural policies in Asia. Mr. Hood is the lead writer for the Jedi Knight story in ‘Star Wars: The Old Republic,' and teaches college-level courses on interactive writing. Dr. Barton is the host of the weekly YouTube program, Matt Chat, which focuses on classic video games, and he has also published two books and a website over the video gaming industry. The Special Art Guest is Brian Brinlee, a freelance illustrator who works mostly comics as well as role-playing game companies,” said Robin Reid, professor of Literature and Languages. “This is a family-friendly event and we would love to see you there.”

The cost for the all-day con is $5 for students, faculty and staff and $10 for the general public. Children twelve and under are admitted free. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., and there will be a free dance and costume contest in the evening.
