Celebrating Student Workers

On Thursday, April 12, over 300 student workers and faculty were brought together by the offices of Financial Aid and Career Development for the 3rd Annual Student Appreciation Reception.

The event took place outside the One Stop Shop with refreshments, games, a DJ and multiple prize drawings throughout the event. John Kaulfus, Assistant Vice President and Dean of Campus Life and Student Development, was in attendance to help kick-off the celebration with the A&M-Commerce official proclamation of Student Appreciation Week. He also announced the two winners of the $500 Student Employee of the Year scholarships. Natalia Assis of the Departments of Student Access and Success and Institutional Planning and Research was awarded the Graduate Student Employee of the Year scholarship. The assistant to the VP for Business & Administration, Lacey Thompson, was the recipient for Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year.

“The day-to-day operations of campus would simply grind to a halt without the hard work and dedication of our incredible student workers,” said Dean Kaulfus. “We simply cannot do enough to honor these students and their vitally important contributions.”

Eight other individuals received Honorable Mentions for their efforts in their respective departments on campus. Scott Hulsey, Morgan Lutz, Meghan Methvin, Alisha Collett, Justin Canfield, Derek Fort, Urvi Bhatt and Sandeep Tamrakar all received certificates and prize bags in recognition of their time spent as employees.

“The event was a great success,” said Kimberly Herron, a Financial Aid advisor and event coordinator. “We really tried to listen to the students' feedback from last year. We added games, better food items and a DJ this year. I think everyone had a good time, and we got to highlight all of the hard work our student staff puts in.”
